Course Overview

SOLIDWORKS Weldments — Course Description

Course Description

Master SOLIDWORKS Weldments and learn how to efficiently design structural frames, welded assemblies, and fabrication-ready components using professional weldment modeling techniques.

This practical course begins with the fundamentals of Weldment Features and Structural Members, where you will learn how to create frames using standard and custom structural profiles. You will then progress into corner treatments, Trim/Extend, gussets, end caps, plates, holes, and symmetry to build complete welded structures.

The course also covers essential manufacturing workflows such as Cut Lists, Cut List Properties, Bounding Boxes, custom structural member profiles, sub-weldments, and inserting existing parts. You will learn how to configure weldment designs, create weldment drawings, Cut List tables, weld symbols, fillet beads, and weld annotations for clear manufacturing documentation.

In the final stage, you will work with bent structural members, 3D sketches, reference planes, bent tubing, and complex frame geometry, including workflows that combine Weldments with Sheet Metal and Assemblies.

Throughout the course, practical projects such as sign holders, weld tables, suspension frames, picnic tables, chair frames, and bent tubing structures help you develop real-world Weldment modeling skills.

Course Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

1. Create Structural Frames

Build complete Weldment structures using Structural Member features and appropriate structural profiles.

2. Control Frame Geometry

Use groups, corner treatments, Trim/Extend, profile positioning, and sketch considerations to create accurate structural frames.

3. Create Fabrication Details

Add plates, holes, gussets, end caps, and other structural details required for practical welded designs.

4. Manage Weldment Cut Lists

Generate, organize, edit, and customize Cut List items and properties for manufacturing documentation.

5. Develop Custom Profiles

Create and manage custom Structural Member profiles for project- or company-specific requirements.

6. Manage Multibody Weldments

Understand how Weldments use multibody part technology and effectively manage individual bodies and sub-weldments.

7. Create Weldment Configurations

Develop different versions of Weldment designs using configurations and apply machining features selectively using Feature Scope.

8. Create Manufacturing Documentation

Produce Weldment drawings containing individual body views, Cut List tables, weld symbols, annotations, and weld information.

9. Model Bent Structural Members

Use 3D sketches, reference planes, and advanced sketching techniques to create bent tubing and complex structural frames.

10. Apply Practical Weldment Workflows

Take a Weldment design from structural frame creation → detailing → Cut List → configuration → drawing → manufacturing documentation.
